Live in Light of Who’s Watching

by Terry Lanford on November 14th, 2018

Are you living in light of who is watching?  That is the first step to a life that works.  Jesus hears.  Jesus sees.  Jesus knows.  Job 28:11, Psalm 69:5, Matthew 10:26, and scores of other passages all communicate that nothing is hidden from God.  He brings all things to light.  So, it only makes sense to live now as if God is watching and it will all be made known.
We are told in Proverbs 1:7 and 9:10 that “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (i.e. skillful living).”  What is the fear of the Lord?  The writer of Ecclesiastes, the same author of Proverbs, describes the fear of God in connection with some aspect of man’s accountability before God.  In other words, skillful living starts when we realize out of all the people watching us, who really counts.
For am I now seeking the favor of men, or of God?  Or am I striving to please men?  If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a bond-servant of Christ (Galatians 1:10).
Slaves, in all things obey those who are your masters on earth, not with external service [to be seen], as those who merely please men, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord (Colossians 3:22).
1) We will be rewarded and judged accurately and justly, because God sees it all.
2) We don’t have to worry about the actions of others.  God sees and He will deal with it.
3) We must strive to live for the one audience that counts - the Lord Jesus Christ.
